Quiet Elegance

The Collection

Tidal Alchemy 2025, an ancient coastline, held in mineral.

Drawn from the tidal inlets and oyster beds of the Fal Estuary in Cornwall, shaped by the rhythm of tide, shifting textures, the slow pull between movement and stillness. Each painting distils into surface.

Subtle coastal palettes echo mussel blues, sand-washed neutrals and the muted shimmer of tidal waters. Layered surfaces suggest eroded rock, estuarine silt and oyster-lined shallows. Rarefied Cornish tin holds the light as tidal water holds the light.

Fine particles of cassiterite, the mineral that yields tin, carry centuries of history into these paintings. Formed in ancient granite and gathered from rivers, cliffs and coastal seams, cassiterite was so valued that Phoenician traders are said to have journeyed to these shores in pursuit of it. Research has traced tin ingots from Mediterranean shipwrecks back to the granites of Cornwall. It is a rare provenance to carry into a painting.

Contemporary Abstract

A Singular Encounter

Each mineral painting is layered across weeks, allowed to rest, revisited, until the surface arrives. What material cannot produce on its own is what fifteen years of practice brings: the understanding of how these surfaces behave, how depth accumulates, how stillness is arrived at rather than decided.

Some works settle into a room. These move with it, shifting with the season and the hour. Paintings alive to the light of the room, holding more in the surface than the eye sees at first, deepening with each year they are lived with.

Tidal Alchemy is a small group of original paintings on linen. Each is a singular work, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Each release is offered first to the studio list. Future collections will be previewed there before public release.
