An ancient coastline, held in mineral.
Drawn from the tidal inlets and oyster beds of the Fal Estuary in Cornwall, and shaped by the rhythm of the tide and shifting textures. Subtle coastal palettes echo mussel blues, sand-washed neutrals and the muted shimmer of tidal waters. Rarefied Cornish tin holds the light. Layered surfaces suggest eroded rock and estuarine silt.
Fine particles of Cornish cassiterite are worked into these paintings, carrying four thousand years of history. Formed in ancient granite and hand-gathered from the Cornish coast, cassiterite was so valued that Phoenician traders are said to have journeyed to these shores in pursuit of it. Research has traced tin ingots from Mediterranean shipwrecks back to the granites of Cornwall. It is a rare provenance to carry into a painting.

Fifteen years of practice brings what material alone cannot. The understanding of how these surfaces behave. How depth accumulates. How stillness is arrived at rather than decided.
These paintings move with the room, shifting with the season and the hour. Alive to the light of the room, they hold more in the surface than the eye sees at first, deepening with each year they are lived with.
Tidal Alchemy is a collection of original paintings on linen. Each is a singular work that cannot be repeated, and each is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
